About me
I am a writer. I have been a number of other things in my time, and probably still am, but that's the job description I put on the insurance forms.
Someone - not me, as it happens - has put together a biography of me on Wikipedia, which at the time of writing is reasonably accurate and doesn't contain any egregious insults. It also features one of the few good photographs of me in existence.
I have published two books of political non-fiction. One book of poetry is forthcoming. Two novels sit unloved and unpublished in my bottom drawer. I am currently, as of late 2010, finishing a third, which I am determined will see the light of day. I have also written a lot of journalism. More on all of this can be found to the left of this page.
I am co-founder and co-curator of the Dark Mountain Project, a new cultural and literary movement for an age of global disruption. You can find out more about that here.
In my spare time I coppice trees, run up mountains and teach people how to mow grass with a scythe. I live in Cumbria, in northern England.
If you'd like to contact me you can drop me a line. I reply to all the emails I get, except the rude ones, but it sometimes takes me a while. You can also join my mailing list.
